For the first time, the Seattle Film Critics Society (SFCS) will specifically honor Pacific Northwest filmmaking as part of our annual awards highlighting the best of the year in film. This new award will recognize the many talented filmmakers who call our region home and have been producing work here.
A nominating committee has been assembled to consider feature length film releases from 2022 for the Achievement in Pacific Northwest Filmmaking Award. As part of our overall awards timeline, nominees will be announced on January 9th. Following a vote of the full SFCS membership winners for this, and all other SFCS awards, will be announced via social media on January 17th.
Filmmakers, studios, or their representatives wishing to submit for awards consideration should email email@example.com with the name of the film, the year of its release, and a digital screener that can be viewed by SFCS members.
The SFCS welcomes community engagement in this award. Not a filmmaker? We are looking to hear from interested parties involved with film production in our region. If you know of a film that qualifies, be it one with a local cast, a work produced in the region, or a project that was helmed by a local director, we are looking to hear from you! To suggest a nominee, please e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org and provide all the information you have for a film. If you are uncertain about eligibility, we encourage you to contact us with any questions.
As a reminder, for our awards the Seattle Film Critics Society considers feature-length films (> 40 minutes) made available to Seattle-area film critics or released locally or nationally. Specifically, eligible films are defined as:
- Theatrical releases, which were exhibited in a Seattle area theater or made available in the Seattle market;
- New films receiving concurrent theatrical, digital and/or VOD platform releasing nationally; and/or
- films screened for Members either in a theater or via digital streaming link or DVD/Blu-Ray screener discs, between January 1 and the final day of the nomination period.
All films for the 2022 awards must have been released and viewed by members by 31 December 2022.
